How to use the Project Margins chart in VOGSY

First published on November 15, 2024 ,  updated on June 27, 2025

VOGSY’s Project Margins chart is a vital tool for tracking the financial health and profitability of your projects in real time. Comparing planned financial outcomes versus actual margins enables proactive management to keep projects on budget and meet profit targets.

Understanding the metrics

The chart visualizes three essential profitability indicators:

  • Calculated Margin: This represents the expected profit margin for a project based on the initial project budget, including planned costs (resources, expenses) and planned revenue (based on agreed-upon rates or fixed prices).

  • Actual Margin: This shows the real-time profit margin calculated based on the actual costs incurred and the actual revenue recognized as the project progresses.

  • Margin forecast: VOGSY can also provide a forecast of the final project margin, taking into account the work completed so far and the remaining planned work. This helps in predicting the profitability upon completion.
